Established in 1881, the Elk River Fire Department responds to approximately 450 calls for service annually within its 66 square mile coverage area. The department provides fire protection, rescue, hazardous materials response and fire prevention/education to over 35,000 residents in Elk River and portions of Otsego and Big Lake Township.
